Towers and Fortresses with a View

Embark on a journey through ancient noble families, courageous leaders, and visionary prophets in the village of Arcidosso, where buildings brim with charm and history amidst the lush greenery of the Monte Labbro Nature Reserve.

The Aldobrandeschi Fortress, dating back to the 10th century AD, is one of the best-preserved castles in the region. It offers an archaeological and artistic path that takes you back in time, shadowed by Monte Labbro.

Nestled within the greenery of the nature reserve, Monte Labbro exudes spirituality. At its summit stands the Giurisdavidica Tower, once a refuge for the religious community of David Lazzaretti’s followers, known as the “Prophet of Amiata.” The Tower, reachable on foot, has withstood the tests of time, standing tall and mysterious, guardian of nature and the village.

At the foothills of Monte Labbro, an eastern ambiance fills the air with the Tibetan temple of Merigar West.

Surrounding these sites, the Mount Amiata Wildlife Park safeguards local species such as the Amiatino Donkey and the Apennine Wolf, alongside other observable species within the reserve’s trails.
